Wolever's insanity plea hearing delayed
11/10/2011A Toledo man claiming not guilty by reason of insanity for a series of attacks on area fire stations will return to Lucas County Common Pleas Court next month to learn the results of a psychological evaluation.
Kevin Wolever, 32, of 801 Nevada St., is charged with two counts of improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation and one count each of aggravated arson and felonious assault, for three incidents. Three of the charges had gun specifications, including one five-year specification for shooting out of a motor vehicle.
The son of former Fire Chief Mike Wolever, Mr. Wolever faces up to 48 years in prison if convicted. He remains in custody in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
Mr. Wolever’s attorney, George Gerken, filed a not guilty by reason of insanity plea last month. Judge Linda Jennings said during a court hearing Thursday that the report from the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center was not completed and so set a Dec. 15 hearing date to review the issue.
Mr. Wolever is charged in three incidents over two days in September – one involving allegations that he left an incendiary device outside Station 18 at 5221 Lewis Ave. and that he shot at Station 6 at 642 Starr Ave. twice, injuring a firefighter during one of the incidents.
