Couple held on $1 million each after baby found in freezer

The couple accused of putting an infant in a freezer were ordered to be held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $1 million bond each during a Monday morning arraignment.

Kenisha Pruitt, 20, of 2631 Scottwood Ave., and Antonio Cervantes, of 5324 Rector St., are both charged with one count of child endangering after the infant’s corpse was found in a freezer inside an East Toledo home on Friday night.

An autopsy has not been done, but authorities have said additional charges could be filed once it is completed later on Monday.

Family of the accused were both inside and outside the courtroom on Monday; Ms. Pruitt’s family sitting in the second row and Mr. Cervantes’ family standing outside the doors to the packed room.

Ms. Pruitt’s family left the court crying.

A woman who identified herself as Mr. Cervantes’ mother declined to comment after the arraignment.

“Just know we love him,” one man said as he walked away.
