A Toledo man who served as driver during a recent drive-by shooting has entered a plea in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Kenneth Awls, 18, of 3632 Burton Ave. pleaded no contest Tuesday to one count of complicity in the commission of attempted felonious assault. Judge James Bates found Awls guilty and set a June 12 sentencing date.

According to Assistant County Prosecutor Louis Kountouris, two people were hurt when gunfire erupted from a white Cadillac in the 1300 block of Forest Avenue about 4:50 p.m. March 17. The incident occurred across from Martin Luther King Elementary School, he said.

The investigation revealed Awls was the driver. Injured in the shooting were Deangelo Parker, 23, and Brandon Clark, 27.

The plea deal involved the dismissal of a second count of complicity in the commission of felonious assault plus two gun specifications. Awls faces up to three years in prison when sentenced. No other arrests have been made in the case.
