Competency evaluation set for murder suspect

An Oregon man is to undergo an evaluation to determine whether he is competent to stand trial on murder charges.

Shawn Brazeal, 21, of 1860 Plympton Circle appeared in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Friday. He and co-defendant Jennelle McGuire, 20, of 2308 Chestnut St. are each charged with alternate counts of aggravated murder and murder.

The couple are charged in the death of Ms. McGuire's husband, Devin McGuire, 35, whose body was found Aug. 30 in an Oregon ditch. He was stabbed 22 times in the chest.

Judge Gene Zmuda set a June 27 date for results of the competency evaluation.

Mrs. McGuire is scheduled for a pretrial hearing June 6.
