Trial reset for suspect in case of baby found in freezer

A Toledo woman who is suspected of being the mother of a baby found in an East Toledo freezer received a new trial date in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Kenisha Pruitt, 20, of 2631 Scottwood Ave. is charged with aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. She was scheduled to be tried Monday. If convicted, she faces up to life in prison.

Judge Linda Jennings set an Oct. 15 trial and ordered that Ms. Pruitt’s $1.8 million bond be continued.

The baby was found April 13 in a freezer at a home in the 600 block of Paine Avenue where Ms. Pruitt and the baby’s presumed father, Antonio Cervantes, 18, had lived together.

Mr. Cervantes is charged with involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence, child endangering, and abuse of a corpse. He has a court appearance Aug. 21 before Judge Myron Duhart.
