Couple found guilty in assault of adopted daughter, 3

An East Toledo couple caught on video assaulting a 3-year-old girl they adopted were found guilty of child endangering today by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart.

Joshua and Courtney Waxler, both 25, entered Alford pleas to the third-degree felony for the February, 2012, assault on the girl, whom they had adopted.

J. Christopher Anderson, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, said the charge was reduced from a second-degree felony in part because the victim was not seen by a doctor until two months after the incident, making it difficult to establish she had suffered serious physical harm.

The Waxlers face up to three years in prison when they are sentenced April 23.
