St. John’s Jesuit basketball coach Ed Heintschel pleaded no contest today to operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Mr. Heintschel, 62, of Blissfield, was then sentenced by Maumee Municipal Court Judge Gary Byers to complete a three-day driver intervention program. Judge Byers also suspended his driver’s license for 180 days and ordered him to pay a $400 fine and court costs.

Mr. Heintschel was pulled over about 10:30 p.m. Nov. 26 on Dussel Drive in Maumee for not using his turn signal and almost hitting another vehicle. Police said he smelled of alcohol and failed a standard field sobriety test.
