Man guilty of meddling with evidence in fatality

A Toledo man pleaded no contest Friday to tampering with evidence stemming from a fatal shooting last summer.

Michael Fizer, 28, of 2361 Hollywood Ave. was then found guilty by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda. Fizer, whose case was to have gone to trial Monday, faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced June 5.

Mike Loisel, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, said Fizer initially lied to Toledo police about the location of a pair of shorts that contained blood evidence that might have been relevant to the investigation of the fatal shooting of La’Sean Robinson, Jr., 29. The victim was found June 10 naked and face down in a North Toledo field.

Mr. Loisel told the court Fizer “had nothing to do” with the disposal” of the victim’s body. He said investigators believe Charles McCuin, 21, and Xavier Tate, 29, disposed of Mr. Robinson’s body and clothing and cleaned up the vehicle in which Mr. Robinson was shot in the head.

McCuin was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the case and was sentenced last month to 14 years in prison; Mr. Tate is scheduled to go to trial May 6 for tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.
