A Friday afternoon court appearance for a Toledo police officer who has been stripped of his gun, badge, and law enforcement authority was postponed to Aug. 8.

Robert Adams, charged with criminal damaging and two counts of aggravated menacing, is awaiting a pretrial hearing in Sylvania Municipal Court. He has been on paid leave since a June 1 confrontation with a Springfield Township family at Kroger, 1414 Spring Meadows Dr.

A police report alleges that Mr. Adams, while off duty, tried to write a parking ticket for Jerry Easter, who was parked in a fire lane waiting for his wife, Trena Cook-Easter, to bring out groceries. Authorities claim Mr. Adams pulled out a gun, smashed a window on the Easters' vehicle, and tried to grab Mr. Easter from the car.
