NAPOLEON — A former Henry County commissioner charged with having an unlawful interest in a contract asked the court on Monday to postpone his trial, scheduled to begin today in Henry County Common Pleas Court.

Richard Myers, 64, of Liberty Center will have a bench trial before visiting Judge Randall Basinger of Putnam County starting Aug. 26.

Mr. Myers, who lost his bid for re-election in November, was indicted in September on charges that he lent $25,000 of his own money to a specialty-car company interested in moving to Henry County, then persuaded his fellow commissioners to award a $300,000 grant to that company without disclosing his investment.

Mr. Myers voted on the grant, and the company did not move to Henry County.
