2 arraigned for roles in stabbing, brawl on University of Toledo campus

A Michigan man accused of stabbing a teen on the University of Toledo campus, and another man accused of beating up the alleged stabber, appeared in Toledo Municipal Court today.

Charged with felonious assault is Joseph Bialecki, 18, of 10307 Stark St., in Temperance. His bond was set Saturday at $15,000 with the option to post 10 percent cash.

Court officials said Mr. Bialecki's parents posted the bond and the teen, accused of stabbing Cody Halka, 17, early Friday morning, was released from the Lucas County jail early Sunday morning.

The Halka youth was stabbed once in his abdomen, officials have said. He remains hospitalized.

Domenic Hudson, 18, of 1909 Christie St., is charged with felonious assault, failure to comply, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest.

Bond for Mr. Hudson was set at $30,000 with the option to post 10 percent in cash.

Mr. Hudson is accused of beating Mr. Bialecki after the stabbing. Mr. Bialecki, who appeared in court with a black eye and an arm in a cast, suffered a left orbital fracture, broken nose, and cuts on his hands and feet, according to court records.

Bruce Boerst, Jr., Mr. Hudson's attorney, said his client is a full-time student at the University of Toledo who is there on a full scholarship. He asked the bond be lowered from the state's recommended $15,000 per felony charge, because Mr. Hudson was "defending a friend."

Judge Michelle Wagner told Mr. Hudson that, if his family posts the $3,000 bond, "You should be very appreciative. It's still a lot of money."

After assigning bond, Judge Wagner asked Mr. Hudson if he had any questions.

"I just want to know the status of my friend that got stabbed," he said.

Mr. Boerst said he would tell his client after the court appearance.

It’s not clear what prompted the initial off-campus dispute between two groups, but the involved people met again on campus when the fight broke out.
