Nurse is convicted of attempted drug theft

A registered nurse charged with stealing prescription medications from the hospital where he worked was found guilty Monday of attempted theft of drugs.

Jeston Helton II, 53, of 622 Sylvandale, Oregon, entered an Alford plea to the amended charge before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ruth Ann Franks. She setsentencing for Oct. 3.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges sufficient evidence exists for a conviction. Helton, who was employed at Advanced Specialty Hospital of Toledo, had prior convictions for theft of drugs.
