 pleads no contest
8/28/2013SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man pleaded no contest Tuesday to a fourth-degree felony theft charge after authorities said he failed to give funds raised by a charity raffle to a memorial fund.
Kevin Jaycox, 46, who owns the Sandusky Speedway, sold tickets for 50/ 50 raffles at speedway races in 2010 and 2011 to benefit the Stephen C. Parish, Jr., Memorial Fund, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s office.
The state agency said Jaycox only kept records for the first year of raffle ticket sales, and investigation by the office’s charitable law section revealed the raffle raised an $8,972 net profit for the charity in the first year, but the scholarship fund only received $731.
A state investigation into the raffle began last year, an Attorney General spokesman said. Jaycox will be sentenced Sept. 27 in Erie County Court of Common Pleas.
