A Toledo man convicted in the New Year’s Day stabbing of a woman at a West Toledo bar was sentenced today to 15 years to life in prison.

Hector Alvarado, Jr., 40, of 637 Sterling St., was found guilty of murder but acquitted of felonious assault Aug. 23 following a jury trial before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Frederick McDonald.

Alvarado fatally stabbed Christina Henderson, 23, in the neck during a New Year’s Eve bar brawl about 2 a.m. Jan. 1 at the former South Beach Bar and Grill on Alexis Road.

Prosecutors said they believed Alvarado was fighting with Ms. Henderson’s fiancé, Stacey Bowen, 26, when he swung at Mr. Bowen with a knife and inadvertently stabbed Ms. Henderson.
