The case of a South Toledo man accused of selling liquor to the friend of an Ottawa Hills High School student who was killed in a drunken-driving crash will go to trial Nov. 5.

Judge James Bates of Lucas County Common Pleas Court scheduled the trial during the pretrial hearing on Thursday for Nicholas Thompson, 38, of 340 S. Reynolds Rd.

Mr. Thompson is charged with selling or furnishing intoxicating liquor to a minor, an unclassified misdemeanor punishable by a mandatory fine of $500 and a possible jail term of up to six months.

He allegedly sold a bottle of vodka on Feb. 1 to the friend of Brian Hoeflinger, 18, who was killed that night after drinking at a friend’s birthday party and then driving.
