S. Toledo man pleads not guilty in murder

A South Toledo man charged in the stabbing death of his mother pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity Thursday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Anthony Bertolina, 34, of 3158 Winston Blvd. is charged with aggravated murder and murder in the Dec. 9 death of Mary Bertolina, 56. A longtime Blade employee, Ms. Bertolina was found in a bedroom of her home after her supervisor contacted police to check on her safety when she did not come to work and could not be reached by phone.

Judge Ruth Ann Franks ordered that Mr. Bertolina undergo an evaluation and return to court Feb. 10 for a pretrial hearing.
