Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates agreed Thursday to postpone the trial of a South Toledo man accused of selling liquor to a friend of an Ottawa Hills High School student who was later killed in a drunken-driving crash.

Nicholas Thompson, 38, of 340 S. Reynolds Rd. now is to go on trial Feb. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of selling or furnishing intoxicating liquor to a minor.

An employee of Foxx Liquor Store, 5341 Dorr St., he allegedly sold a bottle of vodka Feb. 1 to a friend of Brian Hoeflinger, 18, who was killed that night after drinking at a friend’s birthday party and then driving.
