A Toledo teen is charged with assault on a police officer after he allegedly shoved a sergeant to the ground.

The 15-year-old boy, who is also charged with resisting arrest, was taken Wednesday to Lucas County juvenile detention center, according to a police report.

Sgt. Duane Poole was working off duty at the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority bus station at Jackson and Summit streets on Wednesday at 2:55 p.m. and told a group of students there that they would have to use a different downtown station because students are not allowed there, according to a police report.

The sergeant reported that the students started to walk away; while the sergeant was talking to another student, the teen came up behind the sergeant and reportedly shoved him to the ground, police said.

The sergeant reported grabbing the teen’s legs so the teen also fell to the ground, according to a police report. The sergeant said he got on top of the teen to handcuff him.

No injuries were reported. The teen is to appear in Lucas County juvenile court Feb. 28.
