Local woman sentenced in food-stamp fraud case

A Toledo woman who admitted to food-stamp fraud was placed on community control Friday for five years.

Donya Ramos, 36, of 2227 Kent St. also was ordered by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda to serve six months in the Correctional Treatment Facility in Toledo, followed by six months in the Lucas County Work Release Program. She also is to undergo random drug screens.

Ramos pleaded guilty to illegal use of food stamps for using electronic benefit transfer cards that were not hers. Judge Zmuda told her she could be sentenced to 42 months in prison if she violates the terms of her community control, which also were imposed for violating her probation from an unrelated conviction on drug charges in 2011.
