Employees in the Lucas County Clerk of Courts soon will receive their first pay increases since 2008.

The Lucas County Commissioners on Tuesday approved a 3 percent wage reopener contract with the 58 workers in the clerk’s office, which is represented by United Auto Workers Local 12.

The increase is retroactive to Jan. 1.

The collective bargaining agreement between the county and the clerk’s staff, which includes workers in the courthouse and auto title office, began Jan. 1, 2013 and expires Dec. 31, 2015.

The union’s contract calls for a second wage reopener after Jan. 1.

The starting salary for staff without the new increase was $21,673 a year.

The highest paid workers earned $33,072 annually, also without the approved wage reopener.
