Maumee woman pleads guilty to role in deadly 2012 fire at a Springfield Twp. apartment complex

A Maumee woman pleaded guilty today to her role in a deadly fire at a Springfield Township apartment complex two years ago.

Kenya McGhee, 39, of 5971 Forest Hills Ct., entered guilty pleas before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated arson for the March 25, 2012 fire that killed her father, Robert McGhee, 61, and Olandia Keith Dixon, 58.

Judge Mandros immediately sentenced McGhee to an agreed-upon term of 15 years in prison. He also scheduled a May 15 restitution hearing to determine how much is owed to fire departments that responded to the blaze and law enforcement agencies who investigated.

Prosecutors said McGhee, who is being held in the Lucas County jail on $2 million bond, conspired with her father to set the fire in order to collect insurance proceeds. Prosecutors said Mr. McGhee ultimately died from carbon monoxide poisoning when he ran back into the burning building in search of his daughter. She had jumped from a third-story window.
