The former acting secretary for Laborers Local 500 was indicted Wednesday because authorities said she received more than $11,000 in unemployment benefits while she was working.

A Lucas County grand jury indicted Patricia Bey-Palmer, 43, of 2731 Glendale Ave., on a charge of grand theft, a fourth-degree felony punishable by up to 18 months in prison.

The indictment said Bey-Palmer received more than $11,000 from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in 2013 after failing to report she had been working for 21 weeks for Miller Pipeline.

Bey-Palmer was removed from a union election ballot in 2010 after it was learned she had been convicted in 2004 in Cuyahoga County of forgery, uttering, theft, and receiving stolen property.
