A Toledo woman who maintained she would never hurt her young son was sentenced today to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years for his murder.

Amanda Bacon, 26, of 504 W. Alexis Rd., was found guilty Friday by a jury in Lucas County Common Pleas Court of murder and endangering children in the Dec. 18, 2012 death of 6-month-old Avery Glynn Bacon. The jury acquitted her on a more serious charge of aggravated murder.

Judge Frederick McDonald imposed the life sentence on Bacon, who took the stand in her defense during the trial insisting she would not and did not hurt her son.

Defense attorneys told the jury that Frank Jones, a man with whom Bacon lived at the time, was taking care of Avery the night he suffered two massive blows to the head while Bacon, who worked as a prostitute, was at an area hotel with a customer.
