Court names attorneys to defend 2 men; 1 to hire own

Defense attorneys were appointed Wednesday to represent two men charged in separate homicides, while a third defendant told the court he still plans to hire his own attorney.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros appointed Don Cameron to represent Martin Woods, 57, who is charged in the 1976 slaying of Rebecca Gerst. A trial date of June 9 was set for Woods, who is serving a life sentence for an unrelated murder.

Dave Klucas was appointed by Judge Linda Jennings to defend Ronald Boaston, 41, of 1126 Amanda Circle, who is charged with two counts of murder for the Feb. 14 death of his ex-wife, Brandi Gonyer-Boaston, 26, of Springfield Township. He is to be in court May 29 for a pretrial hearing.

Also Wednesday, Jerome Carter, 26, of 930 Islington St. told visiting Judge Peter Handwork that he could afford his own counsel although he has not yet hired an attorney. Carter, whose arraignment was postponed until Wednesday, is charged with murder and felonious assault for the fatal beating of Jeffrey Miller-Lee, 27.

The victim was assaulted outside 417 Cumberland Pl. on April 12 and died April 15.
