Pair convicted of lesser charges in assault on 70-year-old man

Two Toledo men accused of assaulting a 70-year-old man with a pool cue have pleaded guilty to reduced charges in the case.

Mario Torres, 52, of 1150 Halstead St. admitted guilt Tuesday to attempted felonious assault, a third-degree felony, while John Pina, Jr., 48, of 5028 Prestler Rd., pleaded guilty to inciting violence, a misdemeanor. Both are to be sentenced June 12 by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros.

Police said Alexander Ochoa, Jr., 70, was shooting pool at an East Toledo bar Feb. 7 with two men when the three began to argue and Mr. Ochoa was struck on the head several times with a cue.
