A registered nurse charged with stealing prescription drugs from his employer is to undergo treatment rather than face a criminal conviction.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros granted a motion for intervention in lieu of conviction Monday for John Rafey, 42, of Swanton who was employed at Mercy St. Charles Hospital at the time of the Dec. 24, 2012, offense.

Mr. Rafey pleaded guilty to the charge but rather than find him guilty, the judge ordered him to be assessed for substance abuse and mental health, and undergo any recommended treatment during a two-year period of probation.
