A man accused in a Sunday afternoon shooting that left one person dead and three others injured remained in the Lucas County jail Tuesday after appearing in Toledo Municipal Court.

Tyler Jones, 19, of 2719 Brentwood Ave., is charged with one count of murder and three counts of felonious assault. His bond was set at $1.3 million and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 3.

Police said they believe Mr. Jones killed Sheymarr Noble, 22, and wounded Davon Ballard, 26; Emerson Ware, Jr., 27; and Terrelle Russell, 27; all of Toledo, in the 2100 block of Joffre Avenue in the central city.

Police initially believed the shooting to be gang related. But as the investigation progressed, authorities determined that it appeared to be about a woman.

Areanna Coley, 18, of the Brentwood address, also appeared in court today and was ordered held in lieu of $25,000 bond. She is charged with obstructing justice in the same case. Authorities claim she lied to police about Mr. Jones’ whereabouts.

Shante Jackson, 24, of Toledo was in court Tuesday to support Mr. Jones. She said the suspect and Mr. Noble were longtime friends. She also proclaimed Mr. Jones’ innocence.

“He innocent,” she said. “He wouldn’t do his own boy.”
