A Toledo man who led police on a lengthy pursuit around the central city was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in prison for ignoring police orders.

Tiatwas Waites, 24, of 1112 Lincoln Ave. pleaded guilty April 9 before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda to failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and resisting arrest.

Toledo police attempted to stop Waites on Feb. 15 for an equipment violation on his vehicle when he drove off, running through stop signs and stop lights as officers followed. At one point he got out of his car and began to run.

When police caught up with him, he fought with them, kicking two officers.
