City robbery spree nets man 15 years

6/25/2014Although he could have received up to 100 years in prison, a Toledo man who went on a robbery spree last winter was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison.
Davon Motley, 26, of 1729 Parkdale Ave. pleaded guilty last month to eight counts of aggravated robbery and four firearms specifications for a series of armed hold-ups in South Toledo.
Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart also ordered Motley to pay restitution of $600 to Dollar General, $500 to Family Dollar, $700 to Wireless Brothers, and $117 to a second Dollar General.
Motley admitted he donned latex gloves and a nylon mask then robbed eight businesses between Nov. 15 and Jan. 25.
Ian English, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, asked the court for a sentence in the lower range saying Motley had no criminal history and, while he carried a gun, he did not overtly threaten any store employees.
“These were a series of crimes that did affect our community drastically,” Mr. English said afterward. “During the investigation and prosecution of the case, however, we were able to determine there were some mitigating factors.”
Judge Duhart, he said, “certainly took that into consideration and rendered a fair and appropriate sentence.”
