A Toledo man set to go to trial Monday for shooting another man instead pleaded guilty in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to felonious assault with a firearm specification.

Visiting Judge Charles Wittenberg then sentenced Steven Holcomb, 32, of 1358 Page St. to eight years in prison.

Holcomb admitted he shot Victor Williams, 39, of Toledo on March 31 near Chase and Pontiac streets after a dispute between Mr. Williams’ cousin and his cousin’s girlfriend. Jennifer Liptack-Wilson, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, said the victim was intervening when Holcomb shot him in the buttocks.
