Toledo man sentenced to 18 months on weapons charge

After spending the afternoon selecting a jury Monday, a Toledo man pleaded guilty to one of five felonies he had faced.

Jerome Williams, 24, of 2472 Lawrence Ave. pleaded guilty to having weapons while under disability and was sentenced to 18 months in prison by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros. Charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property, and participating in a criminal gang were dismissed as part of a plea agreement reached after the jury was seated.

Williams and Keviyon Toyer, 19, were arrested Feb. 24 after leading Toledo police on a chase then taking off on foot. Williams had a loaded .45-caliber handgun with him when police found him hiding under a house.

Toyer entered an Alford plea and was found guilty last month to failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. Sentenced to 24 months in prison, Toyer was expected to be called as a witness in Williams’ trial.
