Christian Jackson, 23, of 1338 Grand Ave., is charged with murder with a firearm specification in the June 10, 2011 shooting death of 17-year-old Montelle Taylor. Young Taylor was shot twice in the chest and once in an arm on Auburn Avenue near Bancroft Street.

Judge Cook appointed attorney Gretchen DeBacker to represent him, and Ms. DeBacker entered not guilty pleas on his behalf.

Judge Cook set bond at $1 million for Jackson, who is serving a six-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery. She scheduled a pretrial hearing for Sept. 15.

Bond was set at $1.1 million for Orlando Nelson, 22, of 1511 Oakwood Ave., who is charged with murder with a firearm specification and tampering with evidence in the Feb. 16 slaying of Lamar Booker, 23. Mr. Booker was shot in the chest in the parking lot of Club Status, 3122 Airport Hwy.

Nelson told the court he intended to hire his own attorney, and Judge Cook continued his arraignment until Sept. 2.

Both Jackson and Nelson are being held in the Lucas County jail.
