Toledo lawyer suspended from practicing law for 2 years

A Toledo lawyer who had been disciplined by the Ohio Supreme Court in 2012 was suspended from practicing law today for two years.

Beauregard “Beau” Harvey, who was admitted to the bar in 2005, was suspended for conduct involving four clients in separate legal matters. The court said it would stay six months of the suspension if he proves he has repaid $2,512 plus interest to one client and $1,050 to another.

Reached by text message, Mr. Harvey declined to comment on his suspension, which arose from a complaint filed by the Toledo Bar Association.

According to a decision written by Justice Judith Ann Lanzinger, Mr. Harvey was retained in 2010 by a client in a bankruptcy matter but “lacked the knowledge necessary to represent a debtor in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy” and failed to provide competent representation. He accepted payment for his services but did not file the bankruptcy petition and later refused to turn over documentation about her complaint to an investigator.

In 2012, Mr. Harvey was ordered by the bar association’s fee-arbitration committee to pay $2,500 to a client in a fee dispute but did not pay the money.

In the final matter cited, Mr. Harvey was found to have sent threatening text messages to a Cumulus Broadcasting representative when Mr. Harvey was representing former radio host Andrew Zepeda in a civil suit filed after he was terminated by Cumulus.
