A Toledo man convicted in the rape of his girlfriend was sentenced today to seven years in prison.

Mark Holmes, 37, of the 500 block of East Streicher Street was found guilty April 6 of rape, domestic violence, and endangering children following a four-day jury trial.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart cited Holmes' lengthy criminal record and the brutal nature of the crime before imposing the sentence.

Holmes, who had faced a maximum of 11 years in prison, was arrested Oct. 29 after a standoff with Toledo police. They were called after his girlfriend reported she had been beaten, berated, sexually assaulted, and forced to drink a cup of his urine.
