Disorderly conduct charge dismissed against Toledo activist

A disorderly conduct charge against a Toledo activist was dropped Tuesday.

Toledo Municipal Court records show the case against Julian Mack was dismissed upon the recommendation of the prosecutor.

Toledo police pulled over a vehicle Sept. 20 at Dorr Street and Lawrence Avenue with driver Ruth Leonard, 31, and passenger Julian Mack, 33. Police said Ms. Leonard quickly hit her brakes and nearly caused a crash while passing officers on an unrelated stop. Mr. Mack yelled “[Expletive] the police,” according to officers.

Mr. Mack said he learned of his dismissal Tuesday evening, and that he was unsure why the case was dropped.

“I am grateful for due process and getting a fair shake within the criminal justice system when that often doesn't happen with many of my peers,” Mr. Mack said.

A disorderly conduct charge against Ms. Leonard, a candidate in Tuesday’s Toledo Public Schools board race, was dismissed upon recommendation of the prosecutor Oct. 24.
