  • A Maumee woman admitted Tuesday to stealing money from her elderly grandfather.

Karrie Urbanski, 46, pleaded guilty to theft from a person in a protected class before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates, who set sentencing for Jan. 23. Asked what she did, Urbanski told the court she “used money that I shouldn't have.” She said she didn't know the amount.

Frank Spryszak, an assistant county prosecutor, said Urbanski obtained a power-of-attorney over her 88-year-old grandfather and made purchases for herself and her family from his bank account. The amount of the theft remains in dispute, although Mr. Spryszak said investigators believe Urbanski stole approximately $134,000.
