Nicholas Evanoff, 33, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of possession of child pornography, according to a joint written statement released Thursday by U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman and FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen Anthony. Mr. Evanoff possessed the child pornography between September and November 2017, according to the statement.

Arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Service, Mr. Evanoff as of Thursday was being held at the Lucas County jail pending arraignment in U.S. District Court on Spielbusch Avenue, according to the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office.

Napoleon Police Chief Dave Mack said Mr. Evanoff was fired Wednesday night, “as soon as” city authorities learned about the indictment.

The chief in a written statement said the city has cooperated with the federal investigation and will continue to do so. He would not elaborate.

Special Agent Vicki Anderson, spokesman from the FBI's office in Cleveland, refused to comment beyond the statement.
