Bankruptcy cases fall 6 percent in Toledo

Cases filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo fell 6 percent in January, according to figures released Thursday by the Clerk of Courts office.

Last month 237 cases were filed compared with 252 filed a year earlier in the 21 northwest Ohio counties covered by the court. There were 207 Chapter 7 liquidation cases, down 6 percent, and 29 Chapter 13 repayment cases filed, down from 30 cases a year earlier.

Bankruptcy filings had been increasing an average of 14 percent the previous two months.
