Black Swamp Arts Fest kicks off in B.G.

9/4/2008

BOWLING GREEN More than 100 juried artists will be lined up at the Black Swamp Arts Festival in Bowling Green this weekend for an event that will feature good art, fine food, and great music.

The three-day event that starts tomorrow will also feature watercolorists, acrylics painters, sculptors, glass bead makers, and potters who will demonstrate, answer questions, and share their knowledge of how they take raw materials and turn them into art.

Artists will demonstrate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The juried artists will line the festival grounds, selling their items throughout the event.

The festival also overflows with music that ranges from singer/songwriter Eilen Jewell, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Graham Parker, and Chatham County Line. Friday s events are mainly bands and the music starts at 4:45 p.m., with headliner Big James and the Chicago Playboys taking the stage at 10:30.

An addition to the festival this year is a teen scene concert at Bowling Green Junior High School featuring bands whose members are all teen agers. Electronic music will be performed at Grumpy Dave s Pub.

The main stage where the larger acts perform will be between East Wooster and South Prospect streets and it overlooks the food court and beer garden.

All music acts are free. So is admission to the festival.
