Amy Winehouse busted again

3/6/2009

"...as human beings we are capable of making sense of situations based on the thinnest slice of experience."

Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.

TROUBLE FINDS HER: Amy Winehouse is in trouble again, this time for allegedly assaulting someone in a scuffle. She was arrested after she returned from a Caribbean vacation, where you'd think she'd get a little R&R. (RL)

DVD PICK OF THE WEEK: With all the buzz about the highly anticipated Watchmen movie, which opened at midnight last night, why not spend 80 minutes with the graphic novel s creator, famed writer Alan Moore? The Mindscape of Alan Moore is a 2003 Moore monologue about his life, his work, and his beliefs masquerading as a documentary. Moore s a genius, and he s obviously spent years examining the human condition and our place in the universe, but some of his conclusions ... well, it makes you wonder if that s really a cigarette in his hand when he s being filmed. (KB)

NOSE OPTIONAL: Word on the streets in London is that Michael Jackson's coming back for a mini-tour. Okey-dokey then. There's rumors that he has a great new album in the can, too, but our guess is that this will be a greatest hits gig all the way. (RL)

GET A GRIP, PEOPLE: File this one under "Wow." This guy writes an interesting piece on the emotional damage that occurs when you get dumped like one of the reality TV show contestants on The Bachelor. OK, who feels sorry for someone one who VOLUNTEERS for public humiliation? Not us. Get over it, ex-girlfriend. (RL)

WILD CARDS: American Idol is down to the final 12 contestants with the three wild cards revealed Wednesday night. Now begins the real sing it loud, sing it proud part of the competition. (RL)

TWITTER THIS!: Facebook is changing its home page look to make it more like the increasingly popular Twitter. You know things are moving fast when the new technology is responding to newer technology. We note the commment from the Facebook honcho that people will be able "share anything they want." Some things are just not worth sharing, pal. Now I'm smiling. Now I'm frowning. Now I'm typing. We don't get it. (RL)

BRITNEY REVIEW: OK, we're feeling a bit under the weather here at Thin Slices -- hence the absence yesterday -- so maybe we're feeling a bit grumpy. But, that said, this review of Britney Spears' first concert of her tour takes her task for being mechanical in her dancing, nervous, and not really singing. And we say, what did you expect? (RL)

YOUR AMERICAN IDOL UPDATE: This guy's losing his cynicism about AI, which is a good thing. We're just hoping this year's winner advances the creative ball a little further down the court than Taylor Hicks. (RL)

FALLON'S IN FOR CONAN: Saturday Night Live alum Jimmy Fallon is taking over for Conan O'Brien because Conan's taking over for Jay Leno who's moving to 10 o'clock and we have no idea what this means for Jimmy Kimmel. Fallon's first-night guests -- tonight -- are Robert DeNiro and Van Morrison so lah-di-dah. Meanwhile, Mighty Max Weinberg is trying to figure out who his boss is. (RL)
