The new horizon in relationships: polyamory

1/6/2010

"...as human beings we are capable of making sense of situations based on the thinnest slice of experience."

Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.

NEW THIN SLICES FEATURE: The Thin Slices staff held numerous meetings, retreats, and confabs all over the world in an effort to come up with something fresh for this feature and we've hit upon this: one day a week we will endeavor to feature a link or two about an IDEA. Not the usual stuff about Tiger Woods or some other goofball celeb (that's how far Tiger has sunk; he used to be considered a great golfer, now he's just another celebrity), but a look at what people are thinking about out there in the ether. This week's is this from the Boston Globe, a look at something called polyamory, which we find incredibly confusing and scary in the category of "That might be OK for other people, but not us." Interesting, though. RL

LIFE GOES ON: At least it does for Elin Nordegren, Tiger Woods' wife, who celebrated the New Year the way rich people do, spending time in a European chalet, eating at expensive restaurants and skiing. Meanwhile Woods remains underground doing who knows what and he's receiving a advice on religion from former Fox TV reporter Brit Hume. RL

WOW: The movie Avatar brought in a billion dollars in 17 days, which is some kind of speed movie-going record that makes it a true box office phenomenon . You don't need 3D glasses to imagine lots and lots of dollar signs pouring into director James Cameron's bank account. RL
