New canine comic joins The Blade

10/3/2010

The Blade's Comics pages are going to the dogs.

"The Dogs of C-Kennel," that is.

The retirement of "Cathy" creator Cathy Guisewite this year has opened up a spot on our pages that we're filling with a strip drawn by brothers Mick and Mason Mastroianni.

They are the grandsons of Johnny Hart, the cartoonist who created "B.C." and "The Wizard of Id."

The strip, which begins Sunday and runs daily, has been in development with Creators Syndicate since 2007 while the Mastroiannis also worked on "Wizard of Id" and "B.C." following their grandfather's death that same year.

The strip provides wry observations into the life of man's best friend and answers such questions as: What do dogs listen to on their iPods? And just exactly what do they think of their canine breathren who allow themselves to be carried around in rich women's purses?
