Manet: Portraying Life opened in October at the Toledo Museum of Art to rave reviews and big crowds, and in January the exhibit moved to London’s Royal Academy for its second and final show. Just as the exhibit ends its run there Monday, a new documentary explores its origins, including a biography of the famed 19th century Parisian painter as well as a behind-the-scenes account of how the show was put together.

The 80-minute Manet: Portraying Life plays a one-time engagement at 7:30 tonight at Franklin Park 16 and Fallen Timbers 14 in Maumee as part of a nationwide screening. Tickets are $12.50.

World-renowned art historian and broadcaster Tim Marlow hosts the documentary and is joined by several experts — including Larry Nichols of the Toledo Museum of Art, who co-curated Manet: Portraying Life — to examine Manet’s life and works.

Information: Franklin Park at 419-472-2324 or Fallen Timbers at 419-878-3898.

New inductees

Kenny Rogers, Bobby Bare, and Jack Clement are the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The new inductees attended a news conference Wednesday at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Each has had a significant impact on music.

Rogers was both a pop crossover and a pop culture sensation in the 1970s and ’80s with songs such as “The Gambler” and the Lionel Richie-produced “Lady.”

“Cowboy” Jack Clement, a colorful artist and producer, played a crucial role in the history of music, working as a producer and engineer at Sun Records before moving to Nashville.

And Bare charted his own path, emulating the free-thinking outlaw movement and veering from country to pop and rock.

DogTV to debut

DirecTV, the largest U.S. satellite-television provider, will begin airing DogTV, a $5.99-a-month premium channel aimed at canine viewers. The channel will be available on the satellite service in the third quarter, according to a statement Tuesday.

DogTV, which calls itself the first and only TV network for dogs, is designed to comfort animals and stave off loneliness when pet owners are out of the house.
