Bowersox, husband split

Crystal Bowersox and husband Brian Walker are splitting up after 2½ years of marriage.

The couple issued a statement to People magazine saying that the breakup is amicable. Bowersox, an Elliston, Ohio native who was the 2012 American Idol runner-up, and Walker, 41, were married in Chicago that same year. Bowersox, 27, has a 4-year-old son from a previous relationship, but the couple do not have any children between them.

“After two and half years, we have decided to end our marriage,” the couple said in the statement to People. “The friendship and love which brought us together remain strong, and we will continue to support each other in our careers and personal lives. We are hopeful that people will be respectful of our privacy as we face this emotional and challenging time for our family.”

In addition to their relationship, the two were songwriting partners, and Walker receives a co-writing credit on three of the songs on her 2013 album All That For This. He is a singer-songwriter and actor from Chicago.

Bowersox, who played in Toledo in early March and who now lives in Portland, Ore., could not be reached for comment Monday. She is set to play Patsy Cline on Broadway this summer in Always... Patsy Cline.
