SANDUSKY — Ohio will unveil an additional Lake Erie license plate on Monday.
The latest design features a life ring with the words “Lake Erie” on it. That and other novelty plates offered by the state are available for purchase from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
The new plate has a depiction of birds in flight inside the life ring, against a backdrop of a sunset and lake waves.
An earlier Lake Erie plate, in which Ohio artist Ben Richmond depicted the Marblehead Lighthouse, will continue to be offered.
Purchasing either Lake Erie license plate generates money for research and conservation projects aimed at protecting the lake. Money goes into the state’s Lake Erie Protection Fund, which the Ohio Lake Erie Office administers to fund grants. Each plate costs an additional $25, of which $15 goes into the fund.
