Improvements to county roads that pass through the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge will receive a $133,600 boost from a U.S. Department of Transportation grant, Ohio Congressional delegation members announced Tuesday.

Traffic from the more than 130,000 people who visit the wildlife park located in eastern Lucas County has caused significant damage to local roads, which also are subject to flooding and damage from burrowing animals, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) announced in statements.

The Ottawa refuge is reputed to be one of the United States' 10 best birdwatching sites.
