Circus clowns need church too

Traveling priest baptized a baby under the big top.

The circus is always a dazzling exciting event for children and family alike. But when the Kelly Miller Circus stopped in Sylvania on Friday, the gravity defying acts and animal taming skills were not the only exciting things that took place under the big top tent.

Earlier that afternoon, the Rev. Richard Notter, 75, baptized a baby boy into the Catholic Church in the middle of the circus floor. The baby was the son of the elephant tamer, Armando Loyal.

I just find this fascinating.

“Is that normal?” I asked Father Notter about baptizing a baby at the circus.

“In the circus it is,” he said.
