In Ohio, local festivals, educational hikes, sugaring tours, and crystallized treats celebrate maple syrup — its heritage, history, and harvest.

During a Maple Madness Driving Tour on Saturday and Sunday, participants can take a walk back in time and sample the sweet treat at dozens of locations across the state. The self-guided agri-tour, described as Ohio’s original, biggest, and best maple tour, including 40 stops (Williams County sites are on the map), is sponsored by the Ohio Maple Producers Association. For maps and other details visit ohiomaple.org.

In Sylvania, maple syrup will be featured during the sixth annual Maple Sugaring Fest from 1 to 4 p.m. March 22 at Olander Park. The event is free.

At the Williams County Fairgrounds on East Main Street in Montpelier, a Maple Syrup Festival from 8 a.m. to noon March 22 will feature not only the all-American product, but several activities and demonstrations.

A fan favorite each year: pancakes and sausage, prepared by the Williams County Fair Foundation, topped with maple syrup provided by the Northwest Ohio Maple Syrup Producers. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.
