Banker was active in community groups
3/24/2004BELLEVUE, Ohio - John Richard "Dick" Pollock, who was president of the former Union Bank and Savings Company for 30 years, died Sunday at his home here. He was 78.
The cause of death was not known.
Mr. Pollock was very dedicated to his community, said his daughter Cheryl Bush.
"He was very kid-oriented and worked with many community organizations," Mrs. Bush said.
Mr. Pollock was born and raised in East Liverpool, Ohio. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served from 1943 to 1946.
He married the former Carolyn Reaney in 1945 while on leave from the service.
Mr. Pollock began working for Union Bank and Savings Company in 1952.
"He didn't have banker's hours. He spent extra hours at the bank," his daughter said.
After eight years he was promoted to president and held that position for 30 years until he retired in 1990.
Mr. Pollock was a member of the Eagles aerie, the Elks lodge, and the American Legion in Sandusky and was a past president of the Community Bankers Association. He was a member of the Ohio Bankers Association, the Ohio State University President's Club, the Bellevue Hospital board of directors, the Bellevue Baseball Commission, and Bellevue Athletic Boosters.
He was on the committee that built the concession building at the football stadium in Bellevue.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Pollock; sons, John and Gary Pollock; daughters, Debi Magnuson, Cheryl Bush, and Lisa Hay; brother, Robert Pollock; a sister, Mary Lou Parker, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Bellevue.
The family suggests tributes to St. Paul Episcopal Church, Bellevue Hospital Foundation Building Fund, or the J. Richard Pollock Scholarship Fund in care of the Bellevue High School Alumni Association.
