Medical data director aided Edon schools

EDON, Ohio - Joan H. Anspaugh, 57, a retired medical records director at Paulding County Hospital in Paulding, Ohio, and a local volunteer, died Tuesday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, of apparent complications from cancer.

Miss Anspaugh retired from the Paulding hospital in 1999 after 30 years of service. She rose in the ranks from keeping track of medical records to managing a staff of people doing that job.

Miss Anspaugh also volunteered as a reading mentor for Edon Northwest Schools for several years until a year ago.

"She was just a very good person who cared a lot about people, took pride in her work, and always helped others And she loved kids," her sister, Carol Brandt, said.

A native of Bryan, Miss Anspaugh, the oldest of six siblings, graduated from Edon High School in 1966 and from Elkhart Institute of Technology, Elkhart, Ind., in the late 1960s.

Miss Anspaugh, who lived in Florence Township near Edon, was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Edon, where she was the council secretary.

Surviving are her sisters, Shirley Anspaugh, Helen Crudele, Carol Brandt, and Linda Clark.

Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Edon. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier, Ohio.
